Year end...

Wow, another year has passed and I'll say it again - it went by so fast!
It's been a great year for photography. There was the introduction of two new DSLRs by Nikon, as well as from Canon. Prices have dropped ridiculously low on digital cameras in general that practically everyone has one now. Next year is looking interesting for software too. Adobe CS3 was just released as a beta and it looks great. I'm also looking forward to Capture One 4.0 which should be out in January.
The popularity of cameras now have even made it common practice to use 'citizen photos' in news pieces now, as opposed to a professional photojournalists' photos. In fact, There was an interesting article I came across discussing how regular citizen's are now getting in the way of professional photographers when it comes to shooting news. The article is here (opens in new window): Demise of Professional Photojournalism. Personally, my take is that it will probably push photojournalists to work harder for their shots and produce better quality. I don't Joe Public with a camera phone is going to put anyone out of business anytime soon. :)
In addition, it is the end of the year which means MSNBC.com has their annual photos of the year article. This year's crop of photos are outstanding. I totally recommend you take a break from whatever you're doing, and set aside a good 10-15 minutes to browse these amazing photos slowly - it's worth it. The link is here (opens in new window): MSNBC Pictures of the Year 2006
Other than that, I'll be off to Miami for a short trip in early January. I'll be staying in South Beach right in the Art Deco district so i'm really looking forward to some great photographic oppurtunities. I'll post the pics up as soon as I get back.
Well, that's about it from me for now, I wish everyone Happy Holidays and a Wonderful New Year in 2007!
