Light, Rooms and Canons

February has been a busy month for photography. Adobe Lightroom V1 was just released on Monday and is available as a 30 day download. It's a great tool for managing and handling large volumes of digital photos. It's Adobe's direct answer to Apple's Aperture software which is aimed at professional to advanced photographers. I've been using the Beta for a few months now and I've upgraded to the full production version. I have to say I've found it to be very useful and streamlined for my workflow and I think its great in heling organize and catalog my CDs of photographs. Once I get more used to it I'll try and get into some specifics on what I like and dislike about the software. In the meantime you can find more info on Lightroom as well as the 30-day trial download here.

Canon has also just announced its new flagship D-SLR - the EOS 1 Mark III. It's 10 MP and looks a worthy successor to the Mark II. The biggest surprise about the camera is its 'live' LCD which shows a real-time preview of a scene on the display. If you know SLRs, then you should know that the mirror mechanism that makes an SLR an SLR doesn't allow for live-previews (which is why, as I tell everyone who i give my camera to when I need a snap of myself, you need to look through the viewfinder to see what you're shooting). Don't ask me how Canon did it, or whether it's a useful feature for professional photographers or just a gimmick. Time wil have to tell I guess. You can check out the Mark III features here.
